About John
John Bullock was born in Crawley and grew up in Horsham. Both towns are south of London. He has delivered mail, pizzas, newspapers, parcels, and propane gas. He has washed dishes in pubs, hotels, all-night cafés, pizza shops, and ethnic restaurants, on both sides of the Atlantic. He also sold shellfish on Brighton pier.
In 1996 he went to Akron, Ohio, for a semester. In 1997 he returned to Akron for grad. school. The first week of his return he slept on a sunken loveseat in the back room of a used car dealership owned by an ex-record holding pizza deliveryman from Syria.
After an MA at Akron ('99) and an MFA at the University of Virginia (‘03), Bullock eventually returned to Ohio. He now teaches fiction writing and composition at Ohio University in Athens and is managing editor of New Ohio Review.
His short stories have appeared in Clackamas Literary Review and the anthology Open Windows III. Making Faces is his first novel.
